North Wales, is as rugged and beautiful as you can get in the United Kingdom.  Gwynedd is the home of the Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) with the highest peak in Wales at its centre.  Formerly Snowden, the mountain's name has reverted to it's original Welsh name of Yr Wyddfa.

Gwynedd's largest town is Bangor and its administrative centre is Caernarfon, which is on the North-West Wales coast of the Menai Strait.  The Isle of Anglesey is just on the other side.
